As an upper-year student, you can live in residence after first year! We also welcome transfer, professional, and graduate students.
Living in residence provides the comfort, convenience, independence, security, and opportunities for involvement you need to help you achieve your academic goals.
As an experienced student, you already have a good understanding of what being at university is all about. Your choice to live in residence in your upper years will provide you with informal peer mentoring opportunities to share your expertise and acquired experience.
If you entered Western as a full-time first-year undergraduate student with an average of 90% or higher and are currently living in residence, you will be guaranteed residence for second year as long as your request is submitted by January 31, 2017.
Alumni House and London Hall are two suite-style residences designed for upper-year student living. Living-Learning Communities are offered in London Hall, providing the option to live with other students in your faculty or program (e.g., Education Community, Graduate Student Community, Ivey Community, etc.).
Additionally, as an upper-year student, you are welcome to live in any other residence regardless if you are a Residence Soph or Staff Member. You will be guaranteed a single room to accommodate your needs.
Convenience and comfort
Living on campus means a short walk to your classes, campus services and extracurricular activities. Alumni House offers easy access to Richmond Row and Masonville Mall, and London Hall is just steps away from the Western Recreation Centre. In addition to our regular in-room caretaking, you also have the option of cooking your own meals or eating in the nearby residence dining halls.
Living in residence with other students offers great benefits to help you succeed academically. Faculty-based Living-Learning Communities allow you to easily form study groups and reach out for peer support.
Living with your friends
Our new online residence booking system offers you more convenience. You can choose your residence building, live with your friends, and reserve your suite.
Leadership and volunteer opportunities
Experiential learning plays an important role in students' academic success. More than 400 student leadership positions and volunteer opportunities are available in residence and any upper-year or graduate students living in residence can apply. Enrich your learning experience, build up your resume, and help out financially with a leadership position in residence.
